The Corner Bakery Café, a restaurant chain owned by the Atlanta-based private equity firm Roark Capital Group, said it is expanding on the West Coast with a new California franchise partner.
Corner Bakery said East Bay Restaurants Inc. of Pleasanton, Calif., will open eigh restaurants in the Sacramento area. The first restaurant will open this year and the remaining over next five years.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
This is the second announcement this week of a restaurant chain owned by Roark Capital expanding to the West Coast. Atlanta-based Moe's Southwest Grill said Tuesday it had signed a franchise deal that will expand its Mexican food restaurants to California for the first time. The deal with HKMII LLC will establish 18 Moe's in Sacramento and Santa Cruz over the next seven years.
Dallas-based Corner Bakery has more than 160 company-owned and franchised locations in 17 states and Washington, D.C,
Roark inherited Corner Bakery and II Fornaio Restaurants and Bakeries, when it acquired the companies’ parent, II Fornaio (America) Corp. in 2011. Roark also owns Arby’s, Cinnabon, Schlotzsky’s, Auntie Anne’s Pretzel’s, and Carvel Ice Cream.
East Bay also franchises Burger King and Taco Bell restaurants.
