A Houston contractor is suing Norcross-based RockTenn, a paperboard and packaging manufacturer, for nearly $30 million, claiming the Gwinnett County company owes that much on work performed at a Louisiana plant.
In a suit filed in Gwinnett State Court, SW&B Construction Co., which builds and retrofits pulp and paper plants, said it signed an agreement with RockTenn in December 2011 to convert and upgrade its 70-year-old Hodge Mill plant in Hodge, La., to a linerboard-only operation.
Linerboard is the smooth outside layer of cardboard boxes and shipping containers.
SW&B said the project was eventually re-estimated in June 2012 to cost more than $42.5 million due to “substantial scope changes and unforeseen conditions” at the plant.
The Houston company said RockTenn stopped making payments around the same time and hasn’t made any since. It is seeking the $29.8 million it says it is owed in addition to court costs.
RockTenn spokeswoman Robin Keegan said the company’s policy is not to comment on pending litigation.
