If you thought January would offer a break after months of holiday shopping, think again. January happens to be a month filled with deals and discounts on everything from fitness equipment to touchscreen laptops, say the experts at DealNews. Here are some of the things you should jump-on this month:
Christmas Goods: Anything with a Christmas theme can be had at 70-80 percent off this month, says DealNews spokesman Mark LoCastro. Godiva practically give away chocolates with Christmas themes, he says, and stores like Lowe's and Home Depot have lots of deeply discounted holiday decor.
Winter Apparel: You will typically see sales of 50-80 percent off on clothing, says LoCastro and you will also have the chance to stack deals by using printable coupons on top of already discounted merchandise.
Tax software deals: Look for discounts of up to 40 percent off on tax filing software. Be sure to look for software that offers discounts on state filing along with free federal filing.
Fitness Equipment: "Demand is high…but there isn't another time for the entire year that there is such a focus on fitness equipment. Retailers and manufacturers take advantage of that interest to entice shoppers to buy," LoCastro says. You can get deals from 30-70 percent off on treadmills, stationary bikes, exercise DVDs and more.
Furniture: New collections to be released in February force retailers to clear out old inventory in January. Find significant deals and discounts of 30–50 percent off at Pottery Barn and Home Depot. You'll also see some good deals on mattresses, adds LoCastro.
Early Valentine's Day sales: "If you procrastinate on Valentine's Day, you get penalized. The window to buy is after Christmas and before Valentine's Day," says LoCastro. Shop now to take advantage of department store deals on diamond jewelry and perfume, he says.
Electronics: Big reveals of new products at the Consumer Electronics Show in January will bring initial discounts on previous generation electronics, LoCastro says. But some of the best sales on these items, particularly on brand name HDTVs, may not hit until February or until new models are released, so pay attention to the release dates of products that you want. One exception is touchscreen laptops — such as the 12-inch Ivy Bridge based models — that dropped to $200 in December. Expect to see similar pricing on these computers through January, LoCastro says.
