Could Coke and Pepsi be calling off their legendary rivalry?
Well, for one day. Sort of.
The beverage giants have released a special Veterans Day video in which Coca-Cola CEO Muhtar Kent and PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi play nice to aid the cause of American Corporate Partners, a national nonprofit organization that connects veterans to business professionals for career guidance.
The duo use the spot — a public service announcement going out nationally to TV stations and posted to each company’s website — to encourage Americans to assist veterans in their transition to civilian life by volunteering on ACP AdvisorNet, a free career advice site for veterans.
It is the first time the leaders of the companies, whose cola war is timeless, have appeared together for a philanthropic cause.
Although they didn’t, exactly. Kent and Nooyi shot their portions of the video separately.
“Coke and Pepsi together,” Kent says in the video with a little mischievous disbelief in his voice. Nooyi follows, “The one thing that unites us is supporting our veterans.”
They conclude with a toast from their favorite brand. You can guess who drank what.
