Say it ain’t so: Atlanta-based chicken sandwich chain Chick-fil-A is dropping cole slaw as a side dish.
What’s more, as the creamy southern staple disappears from the menu, Chick-fil-A is rolling out a salad called a “Superfood Side.” It features broccolini, kale, dried sour cherries and roasted nuts.
Cole slaw has been on Chick-fil-A’s menu since founder Truett Cathy opened the first store in Hapeville, just south of Atlanta, in 1946.
“Chick-fil-A has made the difficult decision to remove Cole Slaw from the menu on Jan. 18,” the company said in a statement.
“We know many of our customers love our Cole Slaw, yet we have also heard from them they are looking for new tastes and healthier ways to eat in our restaurants. To provide this variety means we will occasionally have to remove items from our menu.”
Not surprisingly, the move has Chick-fil-A fans atwitter.
“This must be some cruel New Year’s joke,” one tweeted.
But another wrote: “Good. I hate mayo.”
For those who want to make their own version, the chain published its recipe here: inside.chick-fil-a.com/coleslaw-recipe/
