A former General Motors chairman is joining the board of directors at Atlanta-based Invesco.

The global investment management firm said Richard Wagoner Jr. was elected to the board, effective Oct. 7. Wagoner, 60, served as GM’s chairman and chief executive officer from May 2003 through March 2009.

His addition to the board expands it to 11 members. Wagoner will serve on the audit, compensation, and nomination and corporate governance committees.
