California firm breaks ground on Georgia factory

Feb 12, 2013

A California maker of plastic containers broke ground Tuesday on a new manufacturing center in Jasper County in a move state officials said would create 90 new jobs in Georgia.

Norton Packaging will invest $12 million in a factory in Monticello, about 60 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta, where it will make rigid shipping containers. Norton supplies packaging products to makers of adhesives, paints and other goods.

The company could be eligible for up to $2.3 million in state incentives, according to a spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Economic Development.

Containers made at the new Georgia plant will be sold to companies in the Southeastern U.S. as well as Puerto Rico and Europe, according to a news release.
