Barnsley Resort in Adairsville is expanding to include a new 54-room inn and conference center and more meeting and event space.

The new three-story hotel will begin construction immediately and open in the fall of 2017, Barnsley officials said in a release. The additional rooms will bring Barnsley’s total accommodations count up to 150 rooms and suites.

Around 100 new jobs are expected to be created by the project.

“We are thrilled to expand the offerings at Barnsley Resort to meet a frequent request of our guests and clients,” spokesman Matthew Saul said. “We will maintain the intimate, exclusive feel that makes Barnsley Resort so special while being able to accommodate a broader range of corporate groups and social events.”

The resort will continue to operate during the construction.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
