Atlanta Gas Light will be getting a new leader for the second time in less than a year.

Bryan Batson was named president of Atlanta Gas Light, Florida City Gas and Chattanooga Gas Tuesday. He has held various jobs at Atlanta Gas Light’s parent company, AGL Resources, for nearly 30 years.

Batson also will be AGL’s vice president of southern operations.

“We are fortunate to have Bryan’s leadership in this important role,” said Hank Linginfelter, executive vice president, Distribution Operations for AGL Resources.

Batson replaces Steven Lindsey, who is leaving the company for the Laclede Group, a natural gas company in St. Louis, according to a company news release.

Lindsey was named Atlanta Gas Light president last December. He is the second company president to leave for the Laclede Group in less than 18 months. Suzanne Sitherwood stepped down as president of Atlanta Gas Light June 2011 to become president of Laclede in September of that year. She was named the company’s chairwoman and CEO in February 2012.

Atlanta Gas Light distributes natural gas for the state’s gas marketers. The company also is charged with maintaining the gas pipeline infrastructure and meter reading for the marketers.

AGL Resources is the nation’s largest natural gas-only distribution company. After buying Illinois-based Nicor last December, AGL now has 4.5 million utility customers in seven states.
