The Midtown Alliance and Georgia Tech will team up to create a “living lab” to develop mobile apps and other technology that can benefit people who live, work and visit Midtown.

The partnership will rely on an open platform for developing experimental mobile applications, including apps that can enhance getting around Midtown, locate available parking or provide real-time public transportation options. The partnership will also use the apps to get feedback on ways to improve life in area just north of downtown Atlanta.

“This partnership is a natural extension of our research in media, health and community-focused technologies that directly impact quality of life,” said Beth Mynant, executive director of Georgia Tech’s Institute for People and Technology, said in a statement. Mynant will lead the laboratory activities.

Midtown Alliance Chairman Dennis Lockhart said the goal is to make Midtown a more livable, walkable and vibrant district.
