Retired American Airlines CEO and Chairman Gerard J. Arpey is joining Home Depot’s board of directors, the Atlanta-based retailer said Wednesday.

Arpey, who spent nearly 30 years with American Airlines and its parent AMR Corporation, will serve on the Home Depot board’s finance committee, as well as its nominating and corporate governance committee. The move brings the number of Home Depot directors to 11.

Arpey is now a partner at Southern California-based private equity firm Emerald Creek Group. He joined Emerald in 2012 following his retirement from AMR. Arpey also serves on the board of S.C. Johnson & Son, and is a trustee of the American Beacon Funds.

“I’m pleased to welcome Gerard to our board, where his extensive experience in organizational management, strategy and finance will serve our company and shareholders well,” Craig Menear, Home Depot’s chairman, CEO and president, said in a release.
