Amid a multi-airline battle for two gates at Dallas Love Field, Virgin America says it has been selected by the U.S. Justice Department to get the gates, a consultant for the city of Dallas says Southwest Airlines is the most attractive option, while Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines says it should have access to the gates.

On Monday, the Dallas city council transportation committee heard presentations from the city’s aviation director and the consultant on the matter. The panel took no action, but said it would seek another briefing before the full city council.

Christine Varney, an attorney representing Delta and former U.S. assistant attorney general for antitrust, on Monday sent a letter to the Dallas mayor and city council saying the city should not approve a sublease of the gates and should instead make the gates “common use,” which could give Delta a chance at accessing the gates.
