Prince is still having his day at Legoland Atlanta.
On April 22, the day after the music icon died, Legoland Discovery Center in Phipps Plaza decided to honor Prince's last scheduled performance -- which happened at the Fox Theatre -- with a small, but effective tribute.
In LEGO Miniland, the part of the attraction that houses LEGO built replicas of Georgia landmarks, the marquee of the Fox Theatre reads "Purple Rain."
"Prince had an impact on us all,” said Whitney Kemmerick, marketing manager at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Atlanta. “Since his last performance was at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, we chose to honor this remarkable man with a LEGO Purple Rain marquee outside of our Fox Theatre in MINILAND.”
There are no plans to remove the tribute anytime soon which is probably a good thing, since according to a thread Tuesday on Reddit.com some visitors to Legoland said they did not notice the marquee and some Atlantans said they didn't notice Atlanta had a Legoland.
Others were just as surprised and thrilled to know there was a Legoland in Atlanta.
At one point the conversation turned to the question of why an attraction that caters mostly to young children would highlight Prince's R rated movie from 1984, but that chatter was quickly squashed (the comments are no longer visible), by everyone who thought the model -- and the fact that Atlanta has a Legoland -- is pretty cool.
