In its third year, four local radio stations raised $261,000 last week during a one-day on-air radio-thon for Children's Healthcare at Scottish Rite.
This is up from $231,888 last year and $255,000 in 2015.
Four Cumulus radio stations teamed up to help: the Bert Show on Q100 followed by Shannon Burke and Kara Stockton of NewsRadio 106.7, then Jason Bailey and "Southside" Steve Rickman of Rock 100.5. Cadillac Jack and Ali Mac, the morning show at Kicks 101.5, closed the deal in the afternoon.
Star 94.1 used to host the radiothon and during its peak years of 2005 to 2007, Steve & Vikki would pull in $1.2 million plus from listeners over three days. But by 2014 and three new morning shows later, Star could only draw $88,000 in a single day. So Children's Healthcare switched to Cumulus, which has the benefit of four radio stations targeting different demographics: rock, pop, news/talk and country.
As a non-profit Children's relies on individual donations. You can do so here.

The 11Alive 35th annual Canathon for the Salvation Army last week collected 238,756 cans of food for people in need.
That's down from last year's 288,000. 11Alive personalities gathered at different locations to promote the event, with help from Radio One stations. I stopped by the Georgia State Stadium spot and saw Chesley McNeil and Shiba Russell. Over at the Cumberland Mall site, I hung out with Crash Clark and Jennifer Bellamy.
Here are the totals from each collection location. As usual, the Rome site blew away everyone else away with 122,000 cans. Apparently, people there spend months collecting cans in advance.
- Georgia State Stadium: 21,216
- Cobb 41,208
- Gwinnett 43,432
- Studio 12,900
- Rome 120,000
