DJ Nabs has departed Boom 102.9, the classic hip-hop station. His final day on the air was September 29.

He chose to leave voluntarily and focus on touring, said Hurricane Dave Smith, Boom's program director and vice president for programming and operations at Radio One Atlanta.

"He will always be considered family," Smith said, and will continue to do mixes for the station from time to time.

DJ Nabs joined Boom as its first live jock in early 2015.

He's a legend in Atlanta, having worked with Kris Kross back in its heyday in the early 1990s. He became So So Def's exclusive DJ backing up Da Brat, Xscape, Jermaine Dupri and Bow Wow. He toured with Mariah Carey, Ludacris, Ciara and Michael Jackson.

DJ Nabs started in Atlanta radio with a mix show on V-103 before moving to what was then Hot 97.5 for three years in the 1990s.

Smith said he plans to fill the afternoon spot left by Nabs. Temporarily, DJ Silver Knight will cover the afternoon spot with an opportunity to take it over full time.
