Katherine McPhee's CBS show "Scorpion" this week received good news: it is getting a fourth season.
This old-fashioned, lighthearted drama draws a very consistent audience Monday nights at 10, averaging 12 million viewers last year, ranked 19th of all TV shows. It's the type of show that gets no critical acclaim but provides procedural fans an amusing hour-long ride where you know the heroes will succeed. It's just a question how.
The season 5 runner up plays Paige, who has a super-smart son and works as the office manager for a special team of geniuses. She's similar to Penny on "The Big Bang Theory," helping them guide through the "regular" world.
For kicks, I just watched the last episode, which aired March 20. McPhee's character gets caught with mechanical engineer Happy Quinn in a gondola that is about to fall if the team can't save them. She gets angry when Quinn insults her intelligence by mocking her cheerleading background and she feels (yet again) inferior. Naturally, Paige uses her cheerleader/gymnastics knowledge to help save their hide and Happy gains more respect for her.
And there is plenty of talk about a wedding between Toby and Happy that centers much of the snappy dialogue.

Ryan Seacrest is expanding successful Distinction clothing collection for Macy's adding sportswear — or what it is calling "lifewear."
Ryan Seacrest Distinction, which is exclusive to Macy's, has been the strongest men's dress clothing brand launch for the store in more than a decade, the Los Angeles Times wrote.
He had tested an Olympics Rio-inspired sports line last summer.
“Lifewear is inspired by how I live,” Seacrest told the Times. “Our fall collection is an interpretation of how I actually dress these days. I may wear a blazer over a T-shirt or denim button-down shirt, or a more casual pant with a dress shirt and tie, or jeans with a sport coat with sneakers.”
