Before even hitting the chorus of Bruno Mars' "Versace on the Floor," 31-year-old Atlanta singer Jon Mero Monday night on "The Voice" got three judges to press their red buttons. Miley Cyrus joined right before the end, making him the only person Monday night to get all four coaches to turn their chairs.
He's the first Atlanta resident to perform this season during the show's fifth and second-to-last blind audition episode. And he closed the two-hour episode, too.
"I did not want that to end," said Jennifer Hudson. "That was just amazing. I feel like I was at your concert."
Cyrus noted that they both have bedazzled denim and promised to be a dedicated coach.
"You have a tremendous voice," Adam Levine said, comparing him to Prince. "I honestly see this as a step on your never-ending staircase of your career."
Blake Shelton thought he was a trained dancer: "You're an incredible singer."
Mero brought his mom out. "She has encouraged me every step of the way," he said, breaking down in tears.
In the end, Mero clearly liked the comparison to Prince: he chose rock-pop star Adam Levine as his coach.
Earlier during his bio video, he said he was inspired by Whitney Houston. He has worked as the lead singer of a cover band who does corporate gigs. He has also worked with former "Voice" judge and fellow Atlantan CeeLo Green.
