After three years, Jeff Hullinger was let go today from 750/WSB-AM.
Hullinger, in a brief interview, confirmed his sudden departure but chose to keep it positive. “I enjoyed my three years there,” he said. “It was great fun. It’s a great radio station.”
Asked if Hullinger had any theories why this happened, he said, “ask them.” He said he didn’t think it was anything he said or did on air.
Hullinger had been the afternoon news anchor for WSB-AM while also providing morning updates with B98.5's Steve & Vikki, though his role recently had been cut back on that show for reasons unknown. Pete Combs for now will be covering for Hullinger on WSB-AM. Veronica Waters will be doing news over at B98.5 in the mornings.
A source inside WSB said he had just reupped his contract a few weeks ago. I left a messsage with the boss Pete Spriggs, not that he'd necessarily say much about why Hullinger was given the pink slip.
Hullinger was the WAGA-TV sports anchor from 1984 to 2002. He also worked at WGST-AM, Z93 (now Dave FM) and 96rock. He has been afternoon anchor with WSB-AM for the past two years after doing mostly weekend and fill-in work. He replaced Lisa Campbell.
He has also done work for the Falcons and ESPN. But he got out of sports after a poor experience in Tampa, post WAGA.
