Although December is known to be a time when TV production in Atlanta shuts down or takes a hiatus toward the end of the month, there is plenty of TV news to go around:
- Jermaine Dupri, the legendary Atlanta record producer, has a new reality show with Queen Latifah featuring five young hip hop artists, ages 12 to 16, working with Dupri in Atlanta. Guests during the eight-episode series include his buddies Usher, Ludacris, Da Brat, T.I. and Silento. The series debuts on January 1 at 8 p.m. Lifetime hasn't done a lot of music-oriented reality shows that I can recall though it aired biopics of Aaliyah and Whitney Houston. The show was shot here in Atlanta over the fall.

- Speaking of Queen Latifah, she has been cast in a Fox pilot led by Lee Daniels, who created "Empire" to be shot this month in Atlanta. The new untitled series will be sort of like "Dreamgirls," with Latifah cast as an Atlanta beauty salon owner who plays surrogate mother to three girls in an up-and-coming group. While the women cast for the pilot for the girl group are unknowns, a transgender model from Atlanta Amiyah Scott is also going to be on the show in some way, TMZ reports. Latifah has spent a lot of time in Atlanta in recent years executive producing "Single Ladies" here for a few seasons and starring in films ranging from HBO's "Bessie" to Lifetime's remake of "Steel Magonlias." UPDATE 12/11: Benjamin Bratt ("Law & Order") has been cast as Jahil, a talent manager with impeccable taste, a hidden life and a drive for redemption.

- TV One is shooting a second sitcom after "Born Again Virgin" in Atlanta called "Here We Go Again." It debuts February 9 and features LeToya Luckett ("Single Ladies") and Wendy Raquel Robinson ("The Game"). The press release describes the show as this:It showcases three generations of Walker women whose lives are upended after a series of events sends them along an unexpected journey. The half-hour series follows Maddy (Luckett), a single mother who is convinced there is a 'Walker Women’s Curse,' after being born to her mother, Loretta (Robinson), at age 16, and having a child herself at age 16. Maddy refuses to let her daughter, Shante (Kyndall Ferguson), now approaching her dreaded 16th birthday, become the next in line. Though on a professional high and having fun dating Cedric (Travis Winfrey, Single Ladies), on the night of Shante’s sweet 16 birthday, old feelings resurface for her high school sweetheart Victor (Andra Fuller, Black Jesus) – Shante’s dad and in a moment of weakness, they have one more steamy night. Maddy becomes shocked when at the age of 32, she discovers she is pregnant by Victor - again. As they navigate the trials and triumphs encountered along the way, they discover that starting over just might be where the fun actually begins.
