Another quiet week in the "American Idol" world. When I mention "Idol" to my colleagues here, I've actually had folks say, "That's still on?"
Yup. That's the world we live in now.
At least the ratings didn't go down again last week. The top 6 performance show drew 9.02 million viewers, the show's best since top 9. The top 6 results show drew 7.68 million, the second lowest total in "Idol" history, only behind the top 8 redux results show two weeks earlier.
Here's my power rankings of the top 5:
1. Caleb Johnson. Yawn. I know. What else is there to say? Even if he loses his voice and croaks out the last four weeks, he's still the favorite. (last week- 1)
2. Alex Preston. His singularity either helps him or hurts him at this point. Is there a big enough fan base to get him into the finals once a couple more folks are gone? I still think so. (last week - 2)
3. Jena Irene. She's still very divisive but her fan base should drive her easily into the top 3. Who knows? She still has a shot to make it to the finals over Alex. (3)
4. Sam Woolf. His modest improvements have kept him alive since the save. If he can have a good week again, he might be able to outlast Jessica. (5)
5. Jessica Meuse. She has also improved to a degree but she's been a bottom dweller two weeks in a row which isn't a good sign. She is going to need a killer performance Wednesday to survive. I don't know if she has it in her. (4)

Phillip Phillips has his third top 10 adult top 40 hit with "Raging Fire," now at No. 9 on the Mediabase 24/7 airplay chart. Oddly, it's getting no top 40 traction, unlike his first two songs.

Candace Glover, forgotten season 12 winner, is going to help open the Washington Monument May 12. Wow! Someone actually had her do something!

It's unclear if Clay Aiken can win the Democratic House candidacy but even so, he has little chance of beating the Republican candidate in a conservative North Carolina district. Read this AP story.

Sony is releasing an Adam Lambert greatest hits album. Huh? He's had, like, two genuine hits, right?

Tickets for the Atlanta stop of the "Idols" live tour August 18 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre go on sale May 11 with prices between $30.50 and $66, comparable to past years when the tour stopped at Gwinnett Arena. This will be the first time they are doing the show outdoors. The first two years, the show was t Philips Arena, followed by a decade at Gwinnett.
