Within a few days of news that MGM has been in Atlanta laying the groundwork for a state Capitol push to allow casinos, Mayor Kasim Reed said he fielded calls from several gambling competitors with a sudden interest in local real estate, including Turner Field.
Reed wouldn’t name the companies. But we’re told that two more gaming firms have representatives in Atlanta now, lining up lobbyists for the 2016 session of the Legislature.
One is Boyd Gaming Corporation. From its website:
One of the most respected names in the gaming industry, Boyd Gaming prides itself on offering guests an outstanding entertainment experience, all delivered with the unrivaled attention to customer service that is known as Boyd Style.
Another is Penn National Gaming. From it's website:
The Company presently operates twenty-six facilities in seventeen jurisdictions, including Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, West Virginia, and Ontario.
In aggregate, Penn National's operated facilities feature approximately 31,000 gaming machines, 760 table games, 3,080 hotel rooms and property square footage of 9 million.
