Republican front-runner Donald Trump landed his most prominent endorsement yet - one that he hopes will help him rally conservatives in Georgia and across the South over the next six weeks.
Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor and 2008 vice-presidential nominee who became a Tea Party sensation and a favorite of grass-roots conservatives, will endorse Donald J. Trump in Iowa on Tuesday, officials with his campaign confirmed. The endorsement provides Mr. Trump with a potentially significant boost just 13 days before the state's caucuses.
"I'm proud to endorse Donald J. Trump for president," Ms. Palin said in a statement provided by his campaign.
Her support is the highest-profile backing for a Republican contender so far.
Palin has proved influential - if not always successful - in her endorsements in Georgia.
She weighed in via Facebook back in July 2014 to endorse former state Sen. Barry Loudermilk of Cassville in the 11th and surgeon Bob Johnson of Savannah in the 1st in competitive GOP primaries for open U.S. House seats. (Loudermilk won, Johnson did not.)
She also made a big splash when she backed Karen Handel in her bid for the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate. Although Handel failed to make the runoff, her campaign reported a surge of donations and a new wave of media attention.
But if nothing else, today's news is an excellent opportunity to reprise one of Jon "Daily Show" Stewart's best ever bits, on the day in 2011 when Sarah met Donald. And pizza:
