The legislative session got off to a quick start on Monday with state Sen. Don Balfour's return and early action on legislation to move state primaries to May 20.

The second day is expected to be much slower as the House plans to honor two legislators who passed away last year and a Senate committee takes up a proposal to privatize foster care.

But the biggest action could take place outside the state Capitol. At least five current and former ethics staffers who received federal subpoenas related to an ongoing federal probe into the ethics commission face a deadline early Tuesday to hand over documents to a federal grand jury.

The feds specifically want documents linked to a campaign complaint targeting Gov. Nathan Deal during his 2010 bid for office. This on the day before Deal gives his State of the State speech.
