The Georgia candidates for governor are set for at least two televised debates before the November general election.
Democrat Stacey Abrams and Republican Brian Kemp agreed to an Oct. 23 debate organized by the Atlanta Press Club that will be aired statewide on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
The two candidates also confirmed a Nov. 4 debate on Channel 2 Action News just days before the election.
The campaign releases, issued nearly simultaneously by Abrams and Kemp, did not mention Libertarian Ted Metz.
The initial schedule has a notable omission: Georgia's state fairgrounds in Perry, whose rowdy environs have played host to multiple debates.
Former Gov. Roy Barnes shared the fairground stage with Nathan Deal eight years ago during an hourlong debate that hinged on taxes and illegal immigration. Cheers and boos echoed throughout the vast hall during the event, which featured a boisterous band of sign-waving supporters.
And the din of the crowd got so loud during the 2014 debate between Deal and Democrat Jason Carter that candidates had to strain to hear the questions.
