U.S. Sen. David Perdue will become the latest Georgia Republican to journey to Trump Tower and meet with the president-elect's team.
The freshman senator's office confirmed Perdue was trekking to New York on Friday.
"As a fellow businessman and outsider himself, Senator Perdue was invited to Trump Tower to discuss working together to advance President-elect Trump’s 100-day plan in the Senate and changing the direction of our country," said Perdue's spokeswoman Caroline Vanvick.
Perdue's cousin, former Gov. Sonny Perdue, auditioned for an Agriculture Secretary gig on Wednesday. Rep. Tom Price was tapped as Trump's healthcare secretary days after meeting with Trump. And former Rep. Jack Kingston has also journeyed to Trump HQ.
It's unclear if Perdue, who enthusiastically endorsed Trump over the summer and helped chair his Georgia campaign, is in the running for a job with the administration. He was seen as a potential contender for the top commerce post, which has since been filled, but also may have increased clout in the U.S. Senate when Trump takes office.
Trump's team seems to want to strengthen those ties. Trump spokesman Jason Miller called him a "fantastic ally" for the incoming administration.
