Sen. Johnny Isakson has been hit from the right for one vote after another, has announced a Parkinson's diagnosis and faces a changing electorate.
But with qualifying a little more than two months away, no Democrat has stepped up to challenge him and the only declared Republican had his campaign account disbanded by the feds.
That's why an Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll question testing his favorability ratings with Georgia voters came as a bit of a surprise.
About 35 percent of voters approved of how he handled his job, roughly one-third disapproved, and the rest didn’t know or declined to answer. His favorability rating hit 45 percent when the poll focused only on Republicans, though one in four GOPers said he or she disapproved of Isakson’s tenure in the Senate.
He showed some strength with another constituency: Democrats. The poll found about 30 percent of Democrats gave him high marks, while 36 percent saw him in an unfavorable light.
Isakson seems to be taking nothing for granted – he's been running web ads for months and his team said the two-term incumbent is ready for a fight.
