If you didn’t catch “Weird Al” Yankovic on his “Mandatory Fun” tour when he and his accordion rolled through Chastain last June, it’s kind of, well, mandatory to see him during round two.
(Al and I had a fun chat prior to his appearance last year.)
Yankovic will launch a second “Fun” outing of 79 dates on June 3 in Florida, and return to Atlanta at 7:30 p.m. June 19 at the Fox Theatre.
Tickets for the show are on sale at 10 a.m. Feb. 26 for $49.50-$79.50 and can be purchased at www.foxtheatre.com, the venue box office or by calling 1-855-285-8499. "Mandatory Czar VIP Experience" tickets, which start at $139, go up at 10 a.m. Feb. 25. Visit www.weirdal.com for VIP package info.
Yankovic’s “Mandatory Fun” album, released in 2014, was the first comedy album in more than 40 years to hit No. 1 on the Billboard album chart and the first comedy album to debut in the top slot. The release, which included the instant-classic “Word Crimes,” won a Grammy last year for Best Comedy Album.
The curly-haired parody master is staying busy with several other projects as well. He’s co-host and bandleader for the fifth season of IFC’s “Comedy Bang! Bang!” show, which airs this spring; is developing a TV show with the Jim Henson Company based on his children’s books; and has a series of Weird Al retro-clothed action figures to be released this spring.
Fans of the nostalgia sitcom “The Goldbergs” might have noticed Yankovic in a pivotal role in last week’s episode; he’s also appeared on “Galavant” and provided voice-over roles for “Gravity Falls,” “Wander Over Yonder,” “Adventure Time” and the DC animated feature, “Batman vs. Robin.”
