Michelle Malone will celebrate the release of her new album by giving back.
The official release concert for “Stronger Than You Think,” which arrived last month, will take place Aug. 22 at Eddie Owen’s Red Clay Foundry in Duluth. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Georgia Music Foundation Grant Program, a newly launched initiative that is accepting applications through Sept. 1 for grants of $5,000 or less to support programs of music preservation, education and outreach administered by non-profit organizations and schools.
The show takes place at 8 p.m. and includes Eliot Bronson, Laurie Ray, Failing Acts of Society & Kristen Beach on the bill. Tickets are $20 .
"Because I had music band classes in my school, I was able to develop my inherent interest in music and build an important foundation of discipline and self-esteem that I did not remotely possess before,” Malone said. “It became my reason for working hard and staying in school and essentially saved my life. Including the Georgia Music Foundation in this show is my way of giving back. Not only to raise awareness of their mission to keep music in schools, but also to raise funds for them. We all need something to count on. Music is that for me. I want to help GMF be that for other kids, too. "
Online applications are available at www.georgiamusicfoundation.org.
In addition to the arrival of her new album, Malone recently finished a tour with the Indigo Girls and also released a video for the song, “When I Grow Up,” which she wrote with Sugarland’s Kristian Bush, with whom she toured last year as a multi-instrumentalist in his band.
