The upcoming tribute album to Paul McCartney, “The Art of McCartney,” doesn’t arrive until Nov. 18.

But several offerings from the high-profile roster of artists contributing to the album have already been released.

The latest comes from Billy Joel, who tackles McCartney’s visceral, heartfelt “Maybe I’m Amazed” with the grit and passion of his 30-year-old self. Personally, there are few pairings that make me happier than Joel and Macca, in any form, but especially on a song I’ve always considered one of McCartney’s finest.

Though it was released on the “McCartney” album in 1970, “Maybe I’m Amazed” wasn’t released as a single until the live version by Wings in 1976. That’s the version Joel seems to be channeling here.

The rest of "The Art of McCartney" is equally solid, with a fantastic and eclectic lineup of talent – Bob Dylan, Brian Wilson, Chrissie Hynde, Barry Gibb, Def Leppard, Roger Daltrey, Alice Cooper and Jamie Cullum among the participants – providing arresting versions of classics including "My Love," "The Long and Winding Road," "Let it Be" and "Eleanor Rigby."

Joel's version of "Maybe I'm Amazed" is available for download now on iTunes. Take a listen above and also hear Joel talk about McCartney here.
