HOUSTON - With two Augusta guys in the band, it wasn’t surprising to hear Lady Antebellum singer Hillary Scott proclaim, “A lot of people on this stage are for the Falcons – we have a lot of Georgians here.”
The band performed at a pre-Super Bowl gathering adjacent to NRG Stadium at a show produced by the NFL’s hospitality sponsor, On Location Experiences.
For about 40 minutes, Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood zipped through a taut set of hits including “Downtown,” “American Honey” – which featured their trademark harmonies and Haywood on acoustic guitar – and their saucy new single, “You Look Good,” complete with live horn section.
The frontline trio was backed by five musicians, who helped add banjo to “Bartender” and a synthesizer gloss to the song most recognized by the throng of mostly casual fans – the Grammy-winning “Need You Now.”
Lady Antebellum hits the road this summer and plays at Verizon Amphitheatre in Alpharetta on Sept. 8.
