A few months removed from a role on Broadway, Jennifer Nettles will continue to explore her acting interests.

The Georgia native and sometime-Sugarland singer has joined the cast of the upcoming Dolly Parton TV movie, “Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors.”

Nettles will play young Dolly’s mother, Avie, and will act alongside Ricky Schroeder (playing Parton’s father, Lee).

Also new to the cast, according to Yahoo TV , is Gerald McRaney, who will portray Parton's grandfather, Jake Owens, who wrote the song "Book of Life," which Parton recorded for her 1971 album, "Golden Streets of Glory."

“Coat of Many Colors” will air in the upcoming season on NBC.

Nettles released her first solo record, “That Girl,” in January 2014 and spent most of last year on the road promoting it. In February, she made her Broadway debut, starring as Roxie Hart in “Chicago.”

Last month, Nettles announced that she had parted ways with her record label, Mercury Nashville, but not before releasing the new song, “Sugar.”
