MARTA will launch four new bus routes in Clayton County and make several service improvements on other bus routes starting Saturday.

The changes come as a result of feedback from a series of public hearings and community presentations in the transit agency's service area of Clayton, DeKalb, and Fulton counties.

100927 Atlanta: Riders at the Lindbergh MARTA station had a sign posted enlisted the no-change and modified routes that became effective 9/25. While some MARTA riders may have learned the hard way that the trains won't start as early on weekends, others were adjusting to changes to their weekday commutes on Monday, Sept. 27, 2010. MARTA service reductions went into effect Saturday. The agency cut 10 percent of bus service and 14 percent of rail service as it tried to address an estimated $109 million deficit. Government and transit agencies across the country and metro Atlanta have faced cuts because of the tough economy. Fare increases for passes (for two to 30 days) and the final phase-out of tokens will happen at the beginning of October, and shuttles to Braves games and Lakewood Amphitheatre will be eliminated next year. Detailed maps posted on MARTA's website and at train stations show how bus routes will veer away from less-used paths, or take longer routes to pick up dropped portions of other buses. In general, train passengers will see slightly longer waits, and more who take branch lines will have to stop for transfers.. John Spink jspink@ajc.com

The four new routes are part of the second phase of MARTA's expansion into Clayton County. Bus routes 191  (Clayton Justice Center to the international arrivals level at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport), 193 (Clayton Justice Center to MARTA's East Point Station), and 195 (Anvil Block Road and Lunsford Drive to MARTA's College Park Station) will have Monday-Sunday service.

Route 800 will be a circulator route between the City of Lovejoy and the Jonesboro Justice Center to better connect residents to MARTA’s fixed-route buses in Clayton. It will operate Monday to Saturday, but not on Sunday.
