As The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported last week, Cobb County and the Atlanta Braves have made a host of preparations for fans driving to SunTrust Park. But the team also has partnered with the ride-sharing service Uber to get fans to the ballpark.
SunTrust will have a designated “Uber zone,” where drivers can drop off and pick up fans. And the company has adopted some new procedures to simplify the process of hailing a ride after the game.
Ordinarily, when customers use the app to hail a ride, a particular Uber driver responds. For Braves games, when passengers hail a ride the company will instead give them a personal identification number. They can flash the number at any available Uber driver instead of trying to figure out which car they’re supposed to ride in.
“You’ll be able to match with your driver and leave the ballpark in a very efficient manner,” said Luke Marklin, Uber’s general manager in Georgia.
The company piloted the process at this year’s Super Bowl in Houston. Marklin said Uber averaged 600 rides per game last year at Turner Field. But he expects more this year at SunTrust, in part because of the dearth of public transportation options to get to the new stadium.
