Westboro Baptist not coming, Orlando authorities confirm

ORLANDO - Westboro Baptist Church, whose members are known for protesting high-profile funerals claiming that God's wrath brought about the deaths, announced its plans to head here after the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. But Orlando law enforcement officials say the Westboro protesters are not coming after all.

"Law enforcement has been in contact with Westboro Baptist Church; they have no plans to come to (Central Florida) at this time," the Orlando Police Department posted on its official Twitter account. The update also was broadcast by the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Westboro Baptist Church protestors showed up at funerals following the shootings at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston a year ago and have been using this same verbiage following the massacre at an Orlando nightclub.

A group called  Westboro Counter Protesters had hastily formed to counter any presence Westboro tried to maintain at the upcoming funerals of the Pulse nightclub victims.

Its profile photo is this image of victims’ photos on the altar of First United Methodist Church of Orlando, taken at a Tuesday night interfaith service.
