Kenan Thompson to star in NBC comedy as ‘SNL’ heads into new season
Kenan Thompson has a lot to celebrate. Soon after scoring his very first Emmy for his work on “Saturday Night Live,” NBC announced a new project with him as the star.

The network has given production commitment to "Saving Larry," a comedy starring Thompson, according to Deadline. It's being headed by "SNL" creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels and "Superstore" executive producer Jackie Clarke.
The project follows Thompson’s character, a dad who becomes a single parent of two when his wife dies. What’s worse? He has a hovering dad-in-law making the process a bit more challenging.
While the comedian, who is father of two in real life, recently told Deadline he'd happily remain on "SNL" "forever," it is speculated he could leave if "Saving Larry" goes to series.
Last year, he became the longest-running cast member of the sketch comedy series with 15 seasons under his belt. He started in 2003, which made him the show’s youngest performer at the time. The 44th season of “SNL” premieres Sept. 29.
