Lack of diversity was a pervasive theme during this year's Academy Awards ceremony but it's nothing new, Oscar-winning actor Dustin Hoffman says.

"It's always been racism. It's kind of a reflection of what the country is," he told the Associated Press.
He skipped the ceremony and watched the New York Knicks game instead. Director Spike Lee, who was awarded an honorary Oscar in absentia, was also at the game - in a tuxedo.
"They call my era the Golden Age of film, but I think the Golden Age of film still exists, but it's done by the indies, and I think that is what this theater is for," Hoffman said. "We change when the people that are oppressed force it to change."
