Atlanta filming updates

I did some running around today to check on the status of movie projects filming in Atlanta these days and here's what I'm hearing:

"Michelle Darnell," starring Melissa McCarthy and directed by her husband Ben Falcone, filmed at Agnes Scott College this week after some work on Crescent Avenue in Midtown and the Castleberry Hill area. Coming up next week they'll be at the Gwinnett Center.

(Melissa and her selfie stick stopped by a recent screening of "Spy!")

The MTV teen series "Finding Carter" has been filming at Due West United Methodist Church in west Cobb County.

"Alvin & the Chipmunks 4" heads to the airport after filming in Fairburn and the former Shout restaurant location at Colony Square. They need a bunch of two-legged extras for a hilarious critter scene.

Tom Cruise is in town to work on "Mena," which will film north of Atlanta.

Jon Hamm and Zach Galifianakis are in Atlanta to start work on a new movie, "Keeping Up With the Joneses," a buddy comedy about suburbanites who turn out to be undercover agents. Not sure where they're going to film yet but I will go out on a limb here and hypothesize: some OTP gated community. Johns Creek/Milton would not shock me.

Ang Lee's movie,  "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk," begins an extended engagement at the Georgia Dome soon. Stars include Vin Diesel, Kristen Stewart, Garrett Hedlund, Steve Martin and Chris Tucker along with Atlanta's own Ric Reitz. Prepare for possible traffic impact if you drive near there on your way to and from work. They're casting for extras.

The next "Captain America" movie will be filming at the Pinewood Studios facility in Fayette County.

And someone is making it snow on top of the downtown W hotel. I ran down there to investigate and saw a few trucks parked alongside the hotel, and no yellow location signs like you usually see near filming sites. So I'm still tracking that one down. If you know what's up email me! jbrett@ajc.com.
