Musicians take note: Here are details on auditioning for the Atlanta Symphony orchestra and youth chorus:

  • The 200-voice ASO Chorus will hold auditions for the 2015-16 season on Aug. 23 and 24. The chorus and 60-singer ASO Chamber Chorus are all-volunteer groups. Requisites for auditioning include previous choral experience, music-reading ability and availability to meet the schedule. Rehearsals are held 7:30-10 p.m. Mondays, with nightly rehearsals during choral performance weeks. Auditions are by appointment only.   • Applications are now available for the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra (ASYO). Each year, more than 300 instrumentalists audition for one of the 120 seats in this elite youth ensemble open to rising eighth to 12th grade students in good standing with their school's music program. Applications are available at www.aso.org/asyoapplication. Deadline for online submissions: Aug. 13. Auditions will be held Aug. 22 to Sept. 3.

Under music director Joseph Young, the ASYO will kick off its 41st season with an Overture Concert on Nov. 15 in Symphony Hall. Other concerts include the Crescendo Concert on March 13, 2016; and a Finale Concert on May 8, 2016.

Calvin Smyre,  were on hand for unveiling of the first statue of Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday at the statehouse grounds, more than three years after Gov. Nathan Deal first announced the project.  During the hour-long ceremony leading to the unveiling of the statue of Martin Luther King Jr. at the state Capitol on Monday, many speakers, including Gov. Nathan Deal, spoke of King's biography.
