Three firms have thrown their hats into the ring to compete for a contract to build and operate a composting and recycling facility at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
The long-planned project, dubbed "Green Acres ATL Energy Park," would be built south of the fifth runway off Forest Parkway in Clayton County. It would recycle and compost airport waste and City of Atlanta Public Works department yard trimmings.

The three firms that submitted proposals for the project are Randolph & Company Inc., Sun State Organics and Green Energy & Development. The proposals were due Wednesday at Atlanta City Hall.
This is the airport's third attempt at seeking a company for the long-term lease to build and operate the facility, after previous contracting efforts ran into problems.
