Six guns were caught at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport security checkpoints in one week, in spite of a new $100,000 fine instituted by the Atlanta FBI to deter guns at airport screening.

The Atlanta FBI announced that effective this month, anyone caught with a gun at security checkpoints at Hartsfield-Jackson would be subject to up to a year in jail and a $100,000 fine.

Yet at the Atlanta airport, that didn't stop passengers from being caught with a .380-caliber gun on June 17, a 9mm on June 21, a .380 and 9mm on June 22, another .380 on June 23, along with a .40-caliber firearm the same day, according to the Transportation Security Administration.

Of the 63 firearms caught at checkpoints nationwide over the one-week period, 53 were loaded, according to the TSA.
