Nearly 3 million people in Georgia are expected to travel for the holidays from Dec. 23 through Jan. 3, according to AAA.
That's up 1.6 percent from last year, the auto club group said.
More than 90 percent of Georgia holiday travelers will be driving, with nearly 2.7 million going by automobile, AAA said.
Still, 156,184 in the state are expected to fly, up 0.7 percent. And 109,388 will go by other modes of transportation including cruises, trains and buses -- up 2.1 percent.
Nationally, AAA expects a record 100.5 million people to travel for the year-end holidays, up 1.4 percent.

"This increase in holiday travel this year is driven by continued improvement in the labor market, rising incomes and low gas prices," according to AAA senior vice president Brent Stahlheber in written statement. "This helps boost Americans' disposable income, generating more money to spend on lodging, dining out, and buying gifts."
