Delta responds to Orlando massacre

SECONDARY PHOTO - June 13, 2016 Atlanta: Candles remained burning brightly Monday morning, June 13, 2016 in the parking lot of Ten Atlanta at 990 Piedmont Ave NE, Atlanta after an overnight vigil remembering the Orlando mass shooting victims. On Sunday night at the corner of 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue in Atlanta, crowds spilled onto 10th Street and the road was closed to traffic as people remembered those injured and killed in the mass shooting at an Orlando gay club early that morning. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, told residents the city had stepped up its own protections, but said he was there because it was important for him to show his support of the city's gay community The Atlanta Police Department estimated 1,000 people gathered outside of Ten, at the same corner many celebrated a Supreme Court victory last summer that made same-sex marriage legal. In the wake of the Orlando massacre, Delta Air Lines is offering "situational flexibility" to assist victims' families with travel.

Customers or their travel agents can contact Delta reservations for assistance, according to the Atlanta-based airline.

Delta said it also put the Pride flag at half-staff at its headquarters near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Members of Delta's Employee Equality Network group plan to participate in a vigil Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta.

“We all hurt and mourn for those lost in Orlando as well as the numerous victims, some who remain critical,” wrote Delta’s Employee Equality Network group president Michael Long in a note to members.
