A Delta Air Lines flight crew mistakenly landed at an Air Force base in South Dakota, instead of the commercial airport in Rapid City, according to the company.

Delta Flight 2845 landed at Ellsworth Air Force Base on Thursday evening with 130 customers on board after departing from Minneapolis/St. Paul. The Airbus A320 was supposed to land at Rapid City Regional Airport.

After realizing the error and coordinating with officials, the flight re-departed for Rapid City on Thursday night.

Delta said it has offered the passengers on the flight "a gesture of apology for the inconvenience."

The National Transportation Safety Board is conducting an investigation into the incident. Atlanta-based Delta said the crew has been taken off duty and the company has started an internal review.
