It’s a spin on the classic hit by Atlanta’s own Monica and Brandy.

We have another remake on our hands! Tink and Muni Long may be trying for their own hand at a Grammy award-winning collaboration with their latest song “Mine.” The remake samples the cult classic, “The Boy Is Mine” by the dynamic duo, Monica and Brandy. The song comes off of Tink’s latest album “Pillow Talk,” which, like her album released last summer, “Heat of the Moment,” is executive produced by Hitmaka, formerly known as the rapper Yung Berg.

“That was one of the harder records to clear,” Tink said about the remake. “Shoutout to Brandy but it was a process. We had to have a few conversations, she had to hear it… she wanted to really make sure that it was in good hands.” Producer Hitmaka also chimed in on the process of securing the sample. “She’s (Brandy) very particular about people remixing, flipping or sampling her records… at the end of the day, it made the project, and we really appreciate her because y’all get to hear Tink and Muni Long do something crazy,” Hitmaka said.

When a snippet of the remake was initially released online, there were a lot of mixed reviews.

Now that the album has been released and fans can listen to the full song, the reactions seem to be the same.

Initially released in 1998, “The Boy Is Mine” was the lead single from both artists’ second albums, Brandy’s “Never Say Never” and Monica’s album, named after the song. The song went no. 1 on the Billboard charts, which was a first for both Brandy and Monica. The song went on to win a Grammy for the Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. That wasn’t the only honor the hit song received – it became the all-time number one female duet in U.S. chart history, along with being the top-selling U.S. single in 1998.

Tink’s “Pillow Talk” album also includes collaborations with Atlanta native 2 Chainz, Fabolous, Layton Greene, G Herbo and Russ. The Chicago-born singer/songwriter has also released videos for two additional songs from the album, “Cater” and “Goofy.”
