Coca-Cola Chief Information Officer Ed Steinike died on Friday after a brief illness, the beverage giant said.
Steinike was named CIO in 2010 after serving as executive vice president and chief information officer at ING Insurance, Coke said.
“Ed was the consummate Coca-Cola leader and ambassador, a man who led with great care and competence the technology operations of our company and system,” Coca-Cola CEO Muhtar Kent and company president James Quincey said in an email to employees.
Prior to his work at ING, Steinike was chief technology officer at Coke in 2002 and served as the Atlanta company’s chief development officer and CIO of the North America business from 2004 to 2007.
Coca-Cola did not give details on his illness.
Steinike served on the boards of Morehouse School of Medicine and Sentry Insurance. He was a graduate of Marquette University with a bachelor of science in electrical engineering.
He is survived by his wife Renee and children Kyle and Sean. Funeral arrangements are not complete.
“Without question, Ed was more than simply an IT leader,” Kent and Quincey said. “He was also a business leader whose influence touched so many aspects of our system and the technology industry as a whole.”
“Equally important, he was a dear friend, mentor, and inspiration for Coca-Cola system associates around the world,” they said.
