Sports Authority is reportedly considering closing all its stores nationwide, including nine in metro Atlanta.
The athletic chain in March announced its intention to file Chapter 11 bankruptcy and at the time only planned to close 140 stores.
Sports Authority may shutter all stores.
But a recent Forbes report said the Colorado-based company is preparing to go further.
“Most of the company’s assets will go up for auction May 16,” Forbes said in its report. “While buyers could emerge who would keep the doors open in at least some locations, it’s possible that all 450 stores could be liquidated.”
Sports Authority is struggling with more than $1 billion in liabilities and assets valued between $500,000 and $1 billion.
According to its website, the chain’s metro Atlanta stores include locations in Alpharetta on North Point Parkway, at Northlake in DeKalb County, Buckhead on Peachtree Road, Cobb Parkway, Perimeter Pointe on Mount Vernon Highway, near the Mall of Georgia in Buford, Steve Reynolds Boulevard in Duluth, Town Center in Cobb County and Ga. 20 in Conyers.
