Could the land housing Buckhead’s “Disco Kroger” be the next big redevelopment of a grocery store with a notorious reputation?
Developer Equity One has unveiled a plan that could create a mixed-use shopping, dining and living destination at the Piedmont Road Kroger location’s current home. Equity One boasts that the project includes a population of almost 300,000 residents within five miles of the development and average household income of more than $235,000.

The news of an update of the Piedmont shopping center comes just weeks after the announcement that the Kroger on Ponce de Leon Avenue, notoriously called "Murder Kroger" because of years of crimes nearby, is getting a makeover.
Cincinnati-based Kroger said it is partnering with developer New City on a mixed-used tower that will incorporate a new 60,000-square-foot store below 360,000 square feet of office space.
“Our goal for 725 Ponce is to build on the incredible momentum of Ponce City Market and the Beltline, ” New City founder Jim Irwin said.
The “Beltline Kroger” project will include more than 900 underground parking spaces to serve future office tenants. Evenings and weekend parking will be available for Beltline and Ponce City Market visitors.
“Disco Kroger” got its famous moniker because of the numerous nightclubs that operated near it for decades and for drawing in post-partying customers.
