Private jet builder Gulfstream plans to lay off about about 1,100 workers nationwide, but the impact on Georgia isn’t immediately clear.

The Savannah-based company, a division of General Dynamics, makes some of the most advanced corporate jets in the world, including the G650. The company said it would be laying off about 600 contractors and about 3 percent of its “indirect support staff throughout the business.” That comes to about 500 additional positions.
Gulfstream has more than 16,500 employees and contractors worldwide, the company said.
The cuts will be at locations nationwide, but a break down of locations was not provided. Gulfstream operates a sprawling campus near the Savannah airport and in Brunswick.
“We regret the impact these decisions will have on our employees and have arranged a variety of programs to assist these workers with their transition from Gulfstream,” the company said in a statement. “Depending on individual eligibility criteria, employees may receive benefits that include severance and benefits extensions.
