June is all about dads, grads and newlyweds, and many of the deals this month reflect these gift-buying moments.
Father's Day gifts and certain home goods and appliances top the list of hot buys in June, say data analysts from Credit Donkey and Retail Me Not. But there are also things you should avoid — primarily summer clothing and merchandise.
Shoppers on the hunt for Father’s Day gifts should look for sales on tools, clothing and sporting goods to pop up the second week of June, according to Joe Smyth, senior planner for Retail Me Not. Sears and Home Depot offer good annual sales on tools with up to 50 percent off brands like Craftsman Mechanics.
Dads may also appreciate the gift of fishing gear, outdoor apparel and camping gear. You can get up to 50 percent off at stores like Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops, Smyth says.
Summer clothing is still a no-go, but Smyth says you might find good sales at top designer clothing retailers. Discounts at Nordstrom and on brands such as Sperry Top-Sider, Tory Burch and Michael Kors can reach up to an extra 40-50 percent off sale items.
Lingerie is another big category for June as the Victoria’s Secret semi-annual sale runs from June 4-29.
For wedding gifts or home-related gifts for grads, head to Bloomingdale’s, Kohl’s or Macy’s for discounts of 10-50 percent off gift-appropriate items such as dishware and home decor.
Dishware is likely to be on sale this month with discounts of up to 50 percent off.
It’s best to avoid items that are in season for summer such as grills and patio furniture. You may see some sales, but they won’t offer the best savings.
Credit Donkey analysts also suggest you wait to buy air conditioning units this month unless you have no choice. If you can wait, you’ll save 20 percent or more when you purchase after Labor Day.
Warmer weather means more people are investing in their favorite outdoor activities. For this reason, bicycles will be full price now through the end of the summer.
Summer is a great time to take a vacation and you can still get a deal on travel depending on your destination. There will be deals on Caribbean travel, but try to plan your trip before hurricane season rolls around in September.
