Tis the season for holiday beers, including strong, spiced ales. Brewery Ommegang has a new one, called Everything Nice, and it’s this week’s Beer Pick.

Profile

Brewery Ommegang’s newest limited release is a holiday beer cleverly named Everything Nice. It’s brewed with 2 row barley, caramel malt and Citra hops. At 9% alcohol, this Belgian-style strong is certainly festive. It’s said to be “lightly dusted with spices of the season.” That means prominent aromas and flavors of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves and white pepper. The finish is bittersweet.

With it’s heavy dose of spice, Everything Nice can be a bit overpowering on the palate, so I’d save it for desserts like caramel apple, mincemeat, or pumpkin pie, or gingerbread with whipped cream. I tried it with Tate’s Bake Shop Ginger Zinger cookies, which proved to be a perfect match.
